At Cutting Edge Helicopters we’re not just in the Helicopter Flying business …. We’re in the Helicopter Flying, Engineering, Customer Service, Operations, Sales, Pilot Training, Management, Flight Planning, Tour Guide, Logistics business. If it involves Helicopters and we don’t do it we’ll find you someone who does. We were set up by the Boss, Jason Porter, back in 2008 as a small Pilot Training organisation at the City of Derry Airport. Jason ran the business on his own then and he still runs the show today … only now with a great Team and a lot of help.
We’ve grown from that small Training School with a single Helicopter to the largest Commercial Helicopter Operator in Northern Ireland (at the time of writing) and one of the largest in Ireland managing and operating a fleet of 8 Helicopters across 3 bases (the City of Derry Airport, Enniskillen Airport and Kerry Airport). We are also now Approved to conduct Commercial Pilot Training and several Type Ratings, and in 2021 we achieved Approval as a Helicopter Maintenance facility.
Jason has also now realised his ambition by gaining his Commercial Pilot’s License and achieving several type ratings, including R22, R44, AS350 and EC130.
Needless to say we have a great bunch of enthusiastic, experienced and customer-focused people supporting the business in various capacities from employee to casual, consultants and volunteers. It take a huge effort behind the scenes to maintain all of the hard-earned Certifications and Approvals but we also enjoy introducing people to the fantastic world of Helicopters and showcasing our spectacular scenery. We are all local so a bit of a yarn and some of the craic is never too far away.
We are nonetheless safety-driven and our Certifications, Approvals and Compliance Record are testament to our safety ethos.

Marketing and Event Manager
Aileen oversees all aspects of our marketing department and events calendar. With over 7 years experience within industry, her passion and hardworking attitude is evident in all her work. Aileen may be blessed amongst men at Cutting Edge, but she sure knows how to give us the competitive edge.
Quality Manager
Rodger is the Chief Pilot at Cutting Edge Helicopters. He has vast experience in the aviation industry, having owned his own school, and charter company. Rodger has over 15 years in the industry and is responsible for looking after all of the staff within the company.
Accountable Manager
Jason Managing Director of Cutting Edge Helicopters manages the day to day running of the business, as well as keeping the staff and customers happy. Jason is passionate about aviation, and holds a Private Pilot's Helicopter Licence, and hopes to work towards his Commercial Licence in the future.
Safety Manager and Commercial Pilot
Paul is our safety guru and one of our commercial pilots. He is responsible for managing and implementing the Cutting Edge Helicopters Safety Management System. He flew helicopters commercially in New Zealand and Canada before joining Cutting Edge Helicopters in 2016. Paul has significant commercial flying experience which includes scenic flights, commercial transport operations, charters, agricultural spraying, aerial photography and filming. Paul is also acting as a Safety Manager at a number of UK airfields.
CAM Manager
Ray is a retired Flight Instructor and acts as our Continuing Airworthiness Manager, ensuring that all policies, procedures and safety standards are upheld to the highest standards. Ray has a wealth of experience in the industry and has worked with hundreds of students in his lifetime.
Chief Pilot
Rodger is the Chief Pilot at Cutting Edge Helicopters. He has vast experience in the aviation industry, having owned his own school, and charter company. Rodger has over 15 years in the industry and is responsible for looking after all of the staff within the company.
Commercial Pilot
Ronald is Commercial Pilot at Cutting Edge Helicopters. He completed his private pilot training with us in 2008 and gained his commercial qualifications in 2012. He has worked with Cutting Edge Helicopters since then and accrued significant experience over a range of services including Tours, Weddings, VIP Charters, Aerial Photography, and Commercial Operations.
